The Symphonic Line
These three new pieces in this series were all started with expressively drawing with ink while listening to the musical compositions they were named after. Music has always been a core inspiration for me when creating art and design. Whether I am working in my studio or at the computer, it turns the creative ignition on and plays the soundtrack for my visual exploration and my escape. The sounds, rhythms and tempo guide the mark-making and compositions of my art.
Besides the inspirational effect, I feel music is also a parallel to abstract art. In its’ basic form with sounds, patterns and chords, it is not representational of anything we have seen, but it still creates a unique, emotional response and feeling. One of my favorite artists Robert Motherwell said, “ Painting is a medium in which the mind can actualize itself; it is a medium of thought. Thus painting, like music, tends to become its own content.” Based on our own experiences, each of us form our own emotional connection to art and music. Do these pieces make you feel a certain emotion?
